Questions, answered plainly.
What is free, what Premium adds, and what the app can and cannot promise about the next storm.
Is Hail Sentinel free?
Yes. The free tier covers the storm itself for one saved address: the take-cover alert, severe warnings for your address, live radar with hail overlays, a today-and-tomorrow hail outlook, and your neighborhood’s hail history. Premium is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year at the Founding Member rate, locked for life if you subscribe by October 31; the standard rate after that is $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year. The alert itself is never paywalled on any tier.
Compare Free and PremiumWhich phones does it run on?
Free on iPhone and Android. Apple Watch, CarPlay and home-screen widgets are included on every tier.
How is this different from the weather app already on my phone?
A general weather app passes along the county-wide warning, which covers a whole county or polygon. Hail Sentinel watches every storm on every radar scan for hail specifically and alerts you about the cell headed for your saved address — how big the hail is expected to be, when it arrives, and what to do about it.
How far ahead of the hail will I hear about it?
It depends on the storm. Every tier alerts you when a hail-producing cell is tracking toward your address. Premium also relays farther-out signals and same-day watches, so it hears about storms earlier; how much earlier varies by storm, which is why we publish no single figure.
Can I get the alert by text or email too?
Push notifications are the primary channel on every tier. Premium adds SMS and email copies of the same alert. Every channel is switched on or off from the Alerts screen in the app.
How to change or stop alertsCan I watch more than one address?
The free tier covers one saved address. Premium covers up to four, each with its own alert settings, and adds Follow Me alerts for wherever your phone is.
What happens after a storm passes?
The app keeps the record: which storms reached your address and how big the hail was. Every tier shows your neighborhood’s hail history, refreshed each season on the free tier and daily on Premium. Premium also builds a claim-ready after-storm report for your address automatically.
