Built for everyone
Hail Sentinel is designed to be usable with assistive technology, and to support the accessibility features built into iOS and Android.
Accessibility is part of how we build.
We aim to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA and to support the platform accessibility features on Apple and Google devices. Accessibility is part of how we build, not an afterthought.
What the app supports.
These map to the accessibility features your device already offers — Hail Sentinel works with the assistive technology you rely on.
VoiceOver & TalkBack
Every screen works with the screen reader: controls are labeled, headings and reading order are correct, and severe-weather alerts are announced as they arrive. Dialogs move and trap focus correctly.
Voice Control
Every interactive control has a clear accessible name, so it can be activated by voice.
Larger Text (Dynamic Type)
Text scales with your device's text-size setting, and an in-app Text size control (Default / Large / Larger) lets you enlarge it independently.
Dark Interface
Full Light, Dark, and system-matching themes.
Differentiate Without Color
Threat levels and statuses are conveyed with text labels, shapes, and icons — never color alone.
Sufficient Contrast
Text and interface elements meet WCAG AA contrast, and an Increase Contrast mode (following your system setting or an in-app toggle) strengthens borders, text, and focus indicators further.
Reduced Motion
We honor the system Reduce Motion / Remove Animations setting and an in-app toggle; non-essential animation is minimized or removed.
Reduce Transparency
We honor the system Reduce Transparency setting and an in-app toggle; blur and translucency are replaced with solid surfaces.
Bold Text & clearer buttons
In-app toggles raise text weight and underline buttons/links, mirroring the platform settings.
Open Settings → Accessibility in the app to turn on Larger text, Reduce motion, Increase contrast, Reduce transparency, Bold text, and Underline buttons — independently of your device settings.
Narrated audio lessons in the Learn section include synchronized captions and a full transcript, so they work without sound. Audio descriptions narrate on-screen video — Hail Sentinel has no prerecorded video, so they don't currently apply; if we add video, we'll provide them.
